Penza, 18 January 2017. PenzaNews. 80 people died in traffic accidents in the Penza region in 2016 because of the cars that cross into oncoming traffic. This was reported by the propaganda department of the traffic police of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"Most of such accidents happen on federal highways that cross the territory of the Penza region. It can be explained first of all by a large flow of cars and trucks, and also by the speeds that often exceed the limitations placed by the law," the State Traffic Police clarified.

The department added that in most cases drivers cannot estimate the distance to the oncoming car, which is needed to overtake the passing vehicles.

"According to the results of 12 months of 2016, 93,5% of all traffic accidents in the Penza region, which resulted in 211 deaths and 2.548 injured people, were caused by drivers," the department gives statistical information.
