Penza, 3 August 2017. PenzaNews. 14 people including two children drowned in the Penza region since the beginning of the summer period. This was reported by Marat Mursyaev, deputy head of the department of people's safety at water bodies under the main regional department of the EMERCOM of Russia.

"Compared to an analogous period of the previous year, we observe decrease in the number of deaths in the water, which can be explained by a cool summer of the year 2017. However, when air temperature increases, the number of people who die in water dramatically increases as well," he said at an extraordinary meeting of the commission for prevention and elimination of emergency situations and for fire safety provision, which was held on Thursday, August 3.

Marat Musyaev specified that in the past several days – from July 30 to August 1 – five people died in water bodies.

"The main reasons of the incidents were swimming in unauthorized places as well as swimming in a state of alcoholic intoxication," the press service of the main EMERCOM department in the Penza region quotes the deputy head.
