Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Penza region, the first secretary of the regional committee of the Communist Party Georgy Kamnev responded to criticism of the acting vice governor Viktor Rubtsov on passivity of opposition in the competition for the position of the head of Penza administration.

According to him, the Communists considered the possibility of nominating a candidate for the post of mayor of the Communist Party, but eventually such decision was found impractical.
“The head of administration of Penza will be elected for two months. Then there will be new ‘elections’ for the head of administration, this time with a new lineup of Penza City Duma. We found it impractical to participate in this event. Moreover, we know the composition of the current City Duma, and the result of the competition will be predictable. We decided that it is not worth the trouble, getting involved in this election would be meaningless. When the new City Duma gets elected and the competition is held again, we will consider participating, because the chosen candidate will be appointed for five years this time. Maybe the City Duma composition will change slightly, which will also let us gain more votes,” Georgy Kamnev said.
Commenting for news agency PenzaNews on the statement of mayor Yuri Alpatov that the new mayor of Penza will be in the office for at least two years, Kamnev said that he was not aware of such changes.
“In accordance with the law and the charter of Penza, the whole administration office steps down from office when a new representative body is elected. I honestly was not informed of such changes — maybe they made some amendments in this regard, but it used to be like that when the new City Duma is elected, it chooses the head of administration again. In any case, if the next competition will be held in two hears, we will take part in the election at that time. It will be much more practical than competing for the two years worth of office right now,” Georgy Kamnev explained.
