“We had five on Friday, July 17. On Saturday, we received an announcement from Moscow addressed from ‘CHESTNO’ political party. They held their federal council meeting on July 18, Saturday, and promoted one more candidate, who visited us yesterday and submitted the documents. Therefore, we have six candidates in the list as of today,” he noted.
The further actions are clearly defined by the legislation and the schedule, said the head of the election committee.
“The next step for the candidates and the political parties who promoted them is to gather the signatures of the municipal deputies in their support. As per the law, each candidate must get at least 270 and at most 283 signatures of municipal deputies, with three signatures as a reserve,” he said.
Nikolai Taktarov added that the signatures, along with the documents on incomes, property, statehood, criminal record and other information on the candidates, must be submitted by 18.00 of Wednesday, July 29.
The Penza region election committee will have ten days to review all information in the documents, and we will have to either approve or decline the candidate stating the reason. This will continue until August 8,” he clarified.
The election campaign will begin on August 8, the election committee chairman stressed.
“It will last until September 12. Saturday, September 12, is the so-called pre-election silence,” he reminded.
Nikolai Taktarov also suggested that some municipal deputies among the members of the United Russia party should share their votes with other candidates, or otherwise only the acting governor Ivan Belozertsev will be eligible to participate in the election.
