“According to the requirements of the new law, each taxi driver must have a taximeter, submit his vehicle for technical inspection twice a year and undergo daily medical examinations. All these requirements will be supervised rigidly by personnel of SIRTS,” he said.

At the same time, Sergey Builov noted that under amended traffic regulations carriers found in violation of the requirements of the law on taxis will pay fines of up to 5 000 rubles, but these new rules are not in force yet with the exact date of their coming into effect unknown.

Governor of the Penza region Vasily Bochkarev who chaired the meeting with representatives of taxi dispatch services directed that Sergey Builov first pay attention to “gypsy” [unlicensed] taxis before turning his attention to licensed taxis.

“Let us be more loyal to those who have licenses for passenger transportation and “catch” actively those who do not pay taxes and work illegally,” the head of the region concluded.
