Penza, 17 October 2014. PenzaNews. Penza took the 35th place in the 2013 ecology rating of Russian cities compiled by the Ministry of Nature of Russian Federation.

“The rating includes 87 cities. The official information collection requests were sent to all regions of Russia. Each city was ranked in seven key categories: air quality, water quality and consumption levels, waste disposal, land use, transportation, energy consumption, and environment influence control,” the press service of the regional Ministry of Forestry told “PenzanNews” agency.

The ministry explained that the rating has been assembled in order to stimulate eco-mindful city development, as well as transparency of environment protection activities.

“Penza was ranked well in air quality category in the 2013 rating. The Penza region is one of the best regions in industry-originating air pollution prevention in the Volga Federal District,” the press service said.

The ministry added that the leaders of the rating were Ufa, Saransk and Vologda, while Magadan took the last place.
