The animal’s name is Aksaray, in honor of the breeding farm “Aksarayskiy,” where it grew since it was a calf in the vast pastures.
The new zoo pet was born in April 2010 and now weighs 700 kg — he is a teenager, according to camel’s standards. Males of this species can weigh up to 1,200 kg.
“Currently, Aksaray is acclimatizing to his enclosure. He is in good mood and has healthy appetite. He will mature when he reaches six years, and we are hoping for getting wonderful offspring from him,” the administration of Penza zoo told PenzaNews agency, adding that in the neighboring enclosure houses two female camels — Cabiria and Snezhanna.
