“The Penza Museum of Local Lore is one of the oldest in the Volga land. It was originally founded as a natural and historical museum in 1905 by the members of the Penza Society of Local Lore Researchers. As the time passed and the collection increased, it changed its direction and became a local lore museum in 1924. In the same year of 1924, it moved to the new red-brick two-story museum, formerly a dormitory of the Diocese Church School, where he were to reside for dozens of years. The museum went through its highs and lows, but always remained on the front line for our country and people of the Penza region, preserving the history and the culture of the land through artifacts it keeps,” said Vladimir Zimenkov, director of the Penza Museum of Local Lore.
