“Shkolnitsa” monument in Penza to be removed from Moskovskaya street

Penza, 28 September 2015. PenzaNews. The “Shkolnitsa” monument that is currently installed on Moskovskaya street in Penza will be moved to a different location after it was met with mixed response in the population – ranging from positive to strictly negative. The decision was announced in a reply by the city head Victor Kuvaytsev to an address by a group of journalists asking to move the monument of the girl to the office of the company “Alex-M” that it represents.

Moreover, according to the reply, the city administration considers creating a task group under the urban planning council that will be responsible for review and evaluation of objects of monumental and decorative value and discuss their placement in the city.
The group will potentially include professional sculptors, artists, architects and civil activists as public representatives.
The “Shkolnitsa” monument of a girl dressed in the Soviet school uniform with a briefcase in hand, along with a large number 5 symbolizing a perfect school mark, was installed on Moskovskaya street in Penza in August 2015 as an art object advertising the company “Alex-M.”
On August 28, 2015, eight Penza journalists signed an appeal to the city head Victor Kuvaytsev and the mayor Yuri Krivov with a request to move the “Shkolnitsa” monument from Moskovskaya street to the office of “Alex-M.”
