Penza, 28 September 2015. PenzaNews. Sergei Kolesnikov, technical director of “United Information System,” has commented to PenzaNews agency on the massive malicious attack against his company’s servers that brought down three popular Penza websites: free advertisement portal Bazarpnz.ru, local search engine E58.ru, and medical portal Medpnz.ru.
“ I think this attack did not occur all of a sudden. It is possible it was not just a random attack for laughs, but a direct order. Like if somebody seeks to market a new project in the niche already occupied by Bazarpnz.ru [with the average of 40,000 visitors per day]. And if we ask, ‘Cui prodest?’ [Latin for ‘Who profits?’], we may soon learn the name of the potential party behind the attack,” the speaker said.
He also noted that the server began experiencing the attack at 19.20 of Sunday, September 27.
“There was a break from 6.30 to 7.30 today, after which the attack resumed,” the technical director of “United Information System” explained.
Answering the question about the recovery period for the three popular Penza websites, Sergei Kolesnikov told PenzaNews agency that “the professionals are doing everything possible to bring them up as soon as possible.”
A DDoS attack (short for Distributed Denial of Service) is caused by a large number of computers infected by the malicious party that are instructed to frequently access a particular website, causing it to overload and even become inaccessible.
