A traditional Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11.00 of Thursday, October 29, by the monument commemorating the victims of the years of repressions in Belinsky.
Afterwards, people are invited to take part in the campaign “Memory Candle” that will begin in the literary foyer of the V.G. Belinsky State Museum-Estate.
A traditional annual ceremony will be held by “The Penitence” memorial in Penza on Moskovskaya street on Friday, October 30, Tatyana Alfertyeva, chairman of the regional branch for the Russian civil rights society “Memorial,” told PenzaNews agency.
“It begins at 11.00,” she pointed out.
According to Tatyana Alfertyeva, the event will also feature a campaign “Return of the Names.”
“Names of the Penza citizens who had been shot, arrested or sent to gulags, but later exonerated, will be read out loud,” she explained.
The rights activist reminded that a similar campaign took place a year ago, when the names of peasants deported to special settlements and later exonerated were read.
“This campaign takes place throughout Russia. In Moscow, it will take place on October 29 – in the eve of Day of Remembrance – by the monument at Lubyanka square,” Tatyana Alfertyeva clarified.
Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions is commemorated in Russia on October 30 since 1991. On this day, many cities hold annual mourning campaigns to honor the legacy of the people who died or suffered in political repressions.
