Penza, 12 November 2015. PenzaNews. The communal services of Penza city have taken an unorthodox approach to repairing a large pothole by the viaduct approach from Baumana street – by filling the hole in asphalt with soil during the wet weather, thus making the whole road dirty, and marking the dangerous zone with a makeshift warning sign made out of a chair without a seat tied to the nearby road railing with a piece of red-and-white caution tape.

Currently, PenzaNews agency is trying to learn more about the designer of the original road installation and the trail of thought behind choosing a chair as its core element.

However, the drivers on this section of the road expressed positive attitude towards the new object on the pathway: according to them, any warning sign is still a warning sign that helps avoid the deep pothole and damage your car.

“They can decorate this installation with colorful lights by the New Year celebration – to help citizens feel festive,” one of the drivers proposed.

Moreover, a group of young men driving by the aforementioned object during the visit of PenzaNews agency reporters quickly nicknamed the chair with a piece of tape “a new creative art object,” but said it is lacking an official – such as the Penza mayor Yuri Krivov – standing nearby for the full effect.

“If he is still unable to make his subordinates work and do at least some work on a tiny patch, let him stand here – or even sit in this chair without a seat, wave hands and papers around, and warn each passing car of the danger. He is a mayor, after all, he must care after each Penza citizen like his own family,” said one of the drivers passing by the junction in a foreign brand car.

The pothole’s dimensions are approximately 1.5 by 1.5 meters big, and 10-15 cm deep. PenzaNews agency first reported about it in late August; however, long-time car drivers who use the junction nearly every day in their commute claim it already appeared there in early summer and kept steadily growing thanks to rainwater.

The pothole itself – before the soil-fill and the chair warning installation – demonstrated a damaged and tilted opening of an uncovered manhole inside it.

Such injustice pushed one of the frequent drivers to address the question about the pothole to Alexander Grishaev, acting Minister of Construction and Communal Services of the Penza region, during the October 30 online conference held by PenzaNews agency.

In a reply, the regional official cited information from the municipal enterprise “Departament ZHKKH Penzy” that manages the road, saying the manhole opening will be repaired before November 5.
