Penza, 11 January 2016. PenzaNews. A total of 760 public events were held in the Penza region on January 1-10, announced Valery Murugov, head of the Public Safety and Magistrates’ Activity Maintenance Department, during the regional government meeting session on Monday, January 1.

They involved over 65,000 people – citizens and guests of the Penza region, he added.

According to Valery Murugov, the authorities and the law enforcement “sought to lead people away from mass drinking” during the holidays and promote them to engage in cultural and mass sports events.

“174 public events were held in 129 cities, towns and villages at night into January 1, with over 39,000 people taking part in them,” he said, adding that public order was protected by 480 NGO members.

The public festivities at night into January 7 brought together over 19,000 citizxens, Valery Murugov added.

“The law enforcement successfully prevented any crimes, accidents and other public order violations during the mass events,” he stressed.
