The ceremony became a part of the festivities dedicated to Russia Day and the 353th anniversary of Penza city.
“Lev Borisovich Yermin had to work during a tough period where people’s lives were anything but luxurious, everybody lacked funding, yet there was a need to build industrial enterprises and housing, develop agriculture. Therefore, very much was defined by the talent of the chief, or – like the say nowadays – by his team,” the Penza region governor Ivan Belozertsev said in his speech.
The head of the region reminded that the most prominent achievement by Lev Yermin as the first secretary of the regional Soviet Communist Party committee was his contribution to the relatively big advance of the Penza region’s development, particularly in agriculture.
“It was under Lev Yermin’s guidance when the Penza region made its big step forward. Today, we remember Lev Borisovich [Yermin], as well as his colleagues – heads of factories, collective and state farms, party functionaries and state servants – who assisted him in cities and regional areas. Many of what they did back then is still used by us today. We must remember and treasure this fact,” the governor added.
The public garden in the Penza city center was named after Lev Yermin by the decision of the Penza Duma deputies as of 29 April 2016.
