Over 220 new cases of HIV infection registered in Penza region from beginning of year

Penza, 4 July 2017. PenzaNews. 221 new cases of HIV-infection were registered in the Penza region in the first five months of 2017. This was announced at the statement posted on the website of the regional Rospotrebnadzor department on Tuesday, July 4.

According to the data, the number refers to all contingents.
The incidence rate amounted to 13.5 per 100,000, which is 3.3% higher compared to the analogous period of the previous year. Thus, the rise in incidence, which began in 2009, continues even though the rate of increase got smaller.
The largest increase in incidence – in two or more times – which exceeded an average regional level, was registered in the Bekovsky area, where the figure amounted to 19.5%, as well as in the Penza and Kuznetsk areas – 15.6% and 29.4% respectively.
More than a half of cases of disease distribution were registered in Penza.
Cases of infection at hospitals were not registered.
The share of infections caused by intravenous drug intake remains at the level of 47%.
