Penza, 24 December 2021. PenzaNews. The installation of the memorial stele in honour of awarding Penza the honorary title of City of Labour Valour is being completed in the park commemorating the 40th anniversary of Victory.

According to the press service of the mayor’s office, the grand opening of the composition is scheduled for Monday, December 27.

The date was not chosen by chance: 80 years ago, on 27 December 1941, by the decree of the USSR State Defense Committee, the construction of the Sursky defensive line was completed.

The stele is a composition of a central obelisk and eight pylons around it. The height of the stele is 16 meters, its weight is 3.9 tons. It is engraved with the famous photograph on the steps of the Reichstag “And we are from Penza,” the image of the doctors of one of the evacuation hospitals, as well as the text of the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on awarding Penza the honorary title of City of Labour Valour.

The pylons around symbolize the eight enterprises whose workers forged victory in the rear.
