The competition for the prizes of Alexander Samokutyaev, pilot cosmonaut and Hero of Russia, will bring together over 600 swimmers from 16 Russian regions.

The athletes in six age groups, born in 199-2005, will compete for the medals in 17 individual competitions and relays, as well as in the team championship.

Reportedly, the event will involve the pilot cosmonaut Alexander Samokutyaev himself, as well as the four-times Olympic champion, President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov.

At the same time, all swimming-pool-equipped schools of the Penza region will hold a united swimming lesson as part of the regional project “Learn to Swim.” The lesson in question will take form of an open competition dedicated to Alexander Samokutyaev, pilot cosmonaut and Hero of Russia, and the 55th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s space flight.

Over 2,000 school students will be taking part in the united swimming lesson, says the website of the water sports palace “Sura.”
