Penza, 17 May 2016. PenzaNews. A pair of Amur tigers in the zoo of Grodno, Belarus – the female Taiga, who moved there from Penza in 2011, and Sherkhan, who came from Izhevsk in November 2012 – had two cubs very recently.

“To avoid any unfortunate incidents, the two tigers were kept in separate enclosures over the first three months. They were allowed to meet in a joint enclosure only in January 2013,” the Grodno zoo administration told PenzaNews.
According to them, the tigers reacted positively to one another; however, “the couple took quite some time to create full-fledged family.”
The female cub already received the name Helga, while the zoo visitors will be choosing the name for her brother, the zoo added.
On 7 July 2010, tigers Isatora and Constance bore three tiger cubs, including Taiga. One cub each was sent to Sakhalin, Seoul, and Belarus.
In 2012, Isatora was diagnosed with a “tiger’s disease,” which ended up being the cause of his death in January 2013.
